Level 4 and Level 5 integrated systems tests completed at a South Jakarta data center

Every mechanical, electrical, fire and control system on site was run together and against failure scenarios, and the results were signed off by all parties.

Our commissioning team has completed the Level 4 and Level 5 integrated systems tests (IST) for a data center project in South Jakarta. Both stages were witnessed by the owner, the consultant and the contractors, and the results were signed off on site.

What was tested

Level 4 is functional performance testing. Each system was operated through its full sequence to confirm it does what the design says: chillers and CRAH units stepping through their control loops, switchgear and automatic transfer switches changing over, generators picking up load, and the building management system reporting every alarm and status point correctly.

Level 5 is the integrated systems test. The facility was loaded and run as a whole, then pushed through failure scenarios to prove it stays within the design limits. This included:

  • Utility loss with transfer to generator power and back, watched at every level of the electrical distribution.
  • Cooling plant failover, with the redundant units picking up load while room temperatures were logged against the design setpoints.
  • Fire alarm and suppression interlocks, confirming that dampers, fans and power shut down in the intended order.
  • Concurrent maintenance scenarios, with one path of every critical system taken out of service while the load kept running.

How it went

The scenarios passed within the design limits. Where a punch item came up during Level 4, it was closed and re-tested before the Level 5 runs started, so the integrated test could be carried out without interruption.

The photo shows the combined team on the final day: our commissioning engineers and inspectors alongside the owner's representatives, the consultant and the site contractors. A test at this scale only works when every party is on the same procedure and the same schedule, and this team made that easy.

What this means for the owner

Level 5 sign-off is the last technical gate before the facility goes into service. The owner now holds a signed, revision-controlled report with the measured values against design, the calibration reference of every instrument used, and a closed punch list.
